Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Meet Maddie Maddie is a stunning 1.5-year-old Belgian Malinois with all the traits that make this breed so special—intelligence, resilience, and an incredible desire to connect with her person. Her story is nothing short of remarkable. After being found living under a car with her eleven puppies, Maddie was brought to BARC in Houston, TX, where she endured the stress of shelter life and separation from her puppies, while also receiving routine veterinary care including spay and vaccinations. Despite everything she’s been through, Maddie has come out the other side with her spirit fully intact—and her love for people stronger than ever. Temperament & Personality Maddie is the definition of resilient. She is: Medium drive with a developing off-switch Highly motivated by attention, treats, and toys Exceptionally people-focused and affectionate Eager to learn and highly trainableShe may have experienced hardship, but she has not lost her trust in humans. In fact, she seeks out connection and will happily remind you to keep the attention coming. Training & Potential Maddie already knows “sit” and is just getting started on her training journey. She did not show reactivity to dogs—even under stress—and has a thoughtful, observant nature. She’s currently learning leash skills and basic manners in foster care. With her intelligence and drive, Maddie has all the makings of an incredible partner for: Obedience Agility Working or sport homes Or an active adopter ready to engage her mind and body In Foster Care Maddie is settling beautifully into home life: Crate trained and quiet Comfortable relaxing in or around her crate Loves toys (and may build her own little collection!) Enjoys fetch and interactive playShe’s still rebuilding her strength after raising a large litter and time in the shelter, but she is heartworm negative and on track to be physically ready for adventure very soon. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
