Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Beau (SC) is a 10yearold Labrador Retriever mix whose gentle soul has weathered far more than he ever should have. He came into rescue in a neglected state — eyes hurting, skin uncomfortable, thyroid out of balance — yet somehow, through all of it, he never stopped being happy, hopeful, and heartbreakingly sweet. Thanks to our veterinary partner, Beau is finally getting the care he has always deserved, and he is blossoming with every passing day. He is wonderful with people and other dogs, greeting everyone with the soft, grateful warmth of a dog who knows he’s been given a second chance. And don’t let his age fool you — Beau is a spunky old man, full of quiet joy, tail wags, and that special spark older dogs carry when they realize life is finally safe. Beau doesn’t ask for much. A soft place to rest. A gentle hand. A family who will love him for the rest of his days. In return, he will give you everything he has — loyalty, sweetness, and the kind of companionship only a senior dog can offer. If your heart has room for a dog who truly needs you, Beau is waiting. Apply to adopt Beau (SC) at .rescuedogsrocknyc. Beau’s adoption fee is $300. Please be sure to reference this pet's name as Beau (SC) in case of duplicate names within the rescue. Thank you! RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue. All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
