Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Meet Pickles! Sweet Pickles found himself in a high-kill shelter and we are glad to have him safely with us. He is doing well in his foster home. We're not sure what his breed mix is but he has a glorious soft coat and curious pointy ears. Pickles is a sweet boy but he is on the nervous side. He loves his people but takes time to warm up to new people. With a little patience you can win him over. He will do best in a home with another dog and without young kids. Access to a secure yard is important because Pickles does not love going for walks on busy roads. He is young (only one year old) and clearly was not treated very well by whomever came before us. We can teach him that humans are kind and that he is safe. Pickles is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
