Description

Dog Breed: Dachshund. Adoption Fee: 150. At 13 years young, Jiggs is living proof that the best companions come with a little life experience. This sweet, gentle boy is all about the simple joys – cozy naps, quiet companionship, and being right by your side. Jiggs is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than spending time with his people. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch or moving about your day, he’ll happily follow along, just content to be near you. He has a curious spirit and still enjoys exploring his surroundings at his own easygoing pace. He’s the total package when it comes to manners – fully house trained, neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on all his vaccines. Jiggs also gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats, making him an easy addition to just about any home. Jiggs would thrive in a calm, loving environment where he can soak up attention and enjoy his golden years in comfort. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and a gentle soul, Jiggs is ready to be your devoted best friend. Jiggs is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccines and on heartworm prevention as well as being heartworm negative. However this sweet boy does have a heart murmur that currently doesn't need medication but will in the near future. He also has a couple of masses. We don't know how long this sweet boy has left but we hope he can spend it with his forever people! His adoption fee is $150. We do have to have an approved application prior to meets set up outside of an adoption event. The link for the application can be found here: toolkit.rescuegroups/of/f?c=SGVJMGQY

Overview:

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
