Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Zara is a 1-year-old, 15 lb terrier mix with the softest personality and an incredibly loving heart. Rescued from a hoarding situation, she is still learning what it means to feel safe in the world—but she is already showing just how special she is. This little girl is an affectionate “couch potato” who loves nothing more than being close to her people. When she feels secure, Zara is calm, quiet, and content to simply relax by your side. She truly blossoms in a peaceful home where she has companionship most of the time and can slowly build confidence at her own pace. Zara can be timid in new situations and around unfamiliar people, but once she trusts you, she forms a deep and loyal bond. She does not have an aggressive bone in her body—just a sensitive, gentle spirit learning how to navigate life outside of her past environment. Like many dogs adjusting from a difficult background, Zara can bark more when left alone and will need a patient home willing to help her work through some separation anxiety. She also should not be adopted into attached housing (no apartments). With reassurance, consistency, and time, she will continue to improve and feel more secure. Because of her shy nature, Zara would do best in an adult home or one with older, respectful children who can give her the calm environment she needs to thrive. With patience and love, Zara will reward her family with unwavering devotion. She may start off a little unsure, but once she feels safe, she becomes your most loyal little shadow—and the best couch companion you could ask for If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: .starfishanimalrescue/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
