Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). big ol puppy seeking home! DRAVEN NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Draven Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 5 months as of April 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 37 lbs as of 4/7/26 - he has a lot more to grow! Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Draven is Looking For: Draven is an older puppy who wants what all puppies want - play time and snuggles and more play time to get those puppy zoomies out! He wants to go to puppy school to show how smart he is - and he'll likely be a big boy, so it'll also be good for him to learn to be the bestest boy. And he wants to explore the world by the side of his humans! Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs and to be safe and loved for all his days. In exchange he promises immense love and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is this fluffy boy the one you see by your side? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
