Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Clara Belle Clara Belle was rescued alongside her buddy Otis after living as an outdoor dog in rural South Carolina. Thankfully, her owners surrendered her to a local shelter, giving her the chance at the life she truly deserves. Now in foster care, Clara Belle is living with two other dogs and a cat, and is doing well with both. As we continue to get to know her, she’s showing everyone just how special she is. She’s a sweet, affectionate, and easygoing girl who adores attention and being close to her people. Whether she’s soaking up pets, snuggling at bedtime (she’s a fan of the bed!), or just hanging out nearby, Clara Belle is happiest when she’s part of the family. Clara Belle has good house manners and currently enjoys free-roam privileges. She does best with a structured routine and potty breaks every ~5 hours to stay on track. She knows how to sit, walks nicely on leash, and enjoys her daily walks. She could stand to lose a pound or two, so having a walking buddy in her new home would be ideal. She’s a big fan of mealtime and enjoys chewing on bones or antlers, but is otherwise a moderate-energy pup who thrives in a calm environment. She’s also done wonderfully with the grandkids (ages 7–12) who visit regularly, and has even chosen to sleep with them during visits. Clara Belle is still adjusting to indoor life after spending much of her early years outside. She has been treated for heartworm and is current on all her vet care now. While she does well as part of a pack, she can be food protective with other dogs (not people) at mealtime. Her foster manages this easily by feeding her separately, and she does well taking treats around other dogs; she even sits and waits patiently. Overall, Clara Belle is a loyal, loving companion who will thrive in a home that offers structure, attention, and a calm environment. She’s ready to leave her past behind and settle into a life full of comfort, love, and belly rubs. Apply today! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
