Description
Dog Breed: Maltese / Havanese / Mixed (long coat). One of the nicest and sweetest dogs out there! This handsome, little fella is DEXTER, a wonderful, 6 year old, Maltese mix (possibly with Havanese) who weighs around 7 pounds and has an extremely soft coat of different grays. Dexter was stray found in deplorable condition with his coat matted to the skin requiring shaving off. His hair is growing back and will be long and luxurious again in time. Dexter’s priority is spending time with his person/people. Dexter seeks out your attention and will snuggle up on your tummy or chest if allowed. He’s happy to share your lap too with other dogs; his one favor spot is sitting on a chair to look out the window. Dexter loves the companionship of other small dogs and does great with cats too. He does enjoying playing with toys. Dexter walks well on a leash, is housebroken, and crate trained. His foster mom crates him when she leaves the home. Based on his behavior in his foster home, he is not a candidate for apartment/condo living due to his barking at noises; he is easily spooked by loud noises on walks like garbage trucks going by. We think this may be caused by him having been strayed and living outside for a period of time. He’s not an “adventure” dog - he’s more of a “home body.” Dexter thrives in a home where there are other small, friendly dogs and someone home more often. He also enjoys a fenced yard. This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped; he is housebroken and crate trained. Breed overview
Overview:
The Havamalt is an endearing designer breed, a delightful cross between the gentle Havanese and the elegant Maltese. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both beloved toy breeds, Havamalts are known for their small stature, typically weighing between 7-13 pounds. Their luxurious, soft coat, which can be wavy or straight and comes in a variety of colors, is generally low-shedding, making them a good option for those with allergies, though regular grooming is essential to prevent matting. Temperamentally, they are affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please, often displaying a playful yet calm demeanor. This makes them highly adaptable, thriving in both apartment living and larger homes, and they are particularly well-suited for families with children or seniors due to their gentle nature. While generally robust, potential health considerations can include patellar luxation, eye conditions, and dental issues, so choosing a reputable breeder is paramount for a healthy companion.
