Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Wonder ’s adoption is pending. She is getting a chance to see if she will work out with a prospective adopter. They took advantage of our Foster - to - Adopt program to give her a try in their own home. Meet Wonder! This beautiful female 4 year old German Shepherd (born January 2022) is a wonderful mix of playful energy and gentle affection. Though she doesn’t have papers, she’s every bit the smart, loyal companion the breed is known for. Wonder is incredibly friendly and does well with everyone, including kids, other dogs, and even horses. She loves walks, car rides, and spending time with her people. She’s a well mannered girl who already knows sit, down, shake, and even how to sit up and beg. Wonder is leash trained, housetrained, and crate trained. She enjoys chewing on her toys and can also be independent when needed, but she truly shines when she’s with her people, loving, attentive, and always ready for a hug. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle, and fun companion, Wonder could be your perfect match! All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. If the dog is not old enough, you will be given a voucher for Animal Medical Center in Emmett to cover the cost of the spay or neuter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in. A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
