Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Maxx! This handsome 3 year old German Shepherd (born December 2022) is a loyal and loving companion. Though he doesn’t have papers, he has all the wonderful traits the breed is known for. Maxx does well with everyone, including kids, other dogs, and even horses. He loves going for walks, riding in the car, and spending time with his people. He’s a smart boy who already knows sit, down, shake, and even how to sit up and beg. Maxx is leash trained, housetrained, and crate trained. He enjoys chewing on his toys and has a playful, attentive personality. Maxx can be a little timid at first, but once he warms up, he becomes a very affectionate dog who loves to stay close and soak up attention. He’s independent at times but also very huggable and loving. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will stick by your side, Maxx could be your perfect match! All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. If the dog is not old enough, you will be given a voucher for Animal Medical Center in Emmett to cover the cost of the spay or neuter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in. Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
