Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet Lenny… your 75 lb shadow with a heart of gold! At just 2 years old, Lenny the Chocolate Lab is that rare mix of big dog presence and gentle, easygoing soul…. wrapped in the most beautiful rich auburn coat that glows in the sunlight. Lenny is still figuring out how to “dog,” and it’s kind of endearing. Toys? He’s considering it. Zoomies? Maybe someday. For now, his favorite hobby is simply being near you… room to room, step for step, like a loyal little moon orbiting his favorite planet. He came to us from an awful hoarding and neglect case, so he’s processing just how good life can actually be. He’s housebroken (marks, but upcoming neuter should help), mostly trustworthy to free roam or can be crated, and has excellent manners. No chaos…. just a calm, obedient companion who wants to do right by his people. Lenny gets along beautifully with other dogs and is gentle with kids, making him an easy addition to just about any home. Wild toddlers might be too much for him and we’d prefer him to get all the attention. He doesn’t demand the spotlight, but once he’s in your life, you’ll wonder how your house ever felt full without him. If you’re looking for a steady, soulful companion who just wants to love and be loved (and maybe follow you to the bathroom… always), Lenny is your guy. Would do best with a fenced yard and a more calm home. He is soon to be neutered, fully vetted, vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, and ready for his happy ever after! His adoption donation fee is $425. Please apply directly on our website up in the dropdown menu at havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
