Description
Dog Breed: Redbone Coonhound (medium coat). Meet Karmine Karmine is a 9-year-old Redbone Coonhound who is just beginning to experience what life is supposed to feel like⦠and itâs both beautiful and heartbreaking. For most of his life, Karmine didnât get to be a dog. He was kept kenneled, without the chance to explore the world, feel the grass under his paws, or form the kind of bond every dog deserves. On top of that, he lived for years in pain from untreated double entropionâsomething no animal should ever have to endure. When Karmine first came to us, he was shut down and untouchable. The world was unfamiliar and overwhelming. But slowly, with time and care, heâs started to change. Now, Karmine looks forward to going outside. Heâs learning how to walk on a leash. And the most incredible partâheâs beginning to seek out affection. The same dog who once couldnât be touched is now quietly asking for love. Karmine still has a long road ahead. He needs a patient, understanding homeâsomeone who truly knows and respects the hound breed and is willing to work with him consistently as he continues to learn what it means to be safe, to trust, and to just be a dog. He doesnât need perfection. He just needs someone who wonât give up on him. After everything heâs been through, Karmine deserves a chance at a real life. Please consider opening your heart to himâor sharing his story so the right person can find him. Best in home without small children or cats.

Overview:
The Redbone Coonhound is a striking American breed, instantly recognizable by its beautiful, glossy red coat. Originating in the Southeastern United States in the late 18th century, they were developed for their exceptional scenting abilities and distinctive "bawling" bark, ideal for trailing and treeing raccoons and other small game. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular hounds with long, pendulous ears and soulful brown eyes, exuding an air of quiet determination. Temperamentally, Redbones are known for being amiable, outgoing, and eager to please, making them wonderful companions. They are generally good with children and other dogs when properly socialized, though their strong prey drive means careful introductions to smaller pets are necessary. Due to their high energy levels and vocal nature, they are not typically suited for apartment living and thrive in homes with spacious yards and active families who can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of common hound ailments such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and bloat. Overall, the Redbone Coonhound is a loyal, affectionate, and spirited breed, perfect for active families seeking a devoted canine companion.
