Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Odessa Odessa's story hasn't been an easy one, but she's ready for a new beginning. Found off Cromwell Court in Rockwall on 4/14/26 and never reclaimed, this approximately 3-year-old female Pit Bull mix weighing 33Lbs is now looking for a patient, understanding home where she can finally feel safe and secure. Odessa is shy at first but has a very sweet nature once she begins to warm up. She is still learning how to navigate the world and will need an experienced dog owner who can provide guidance, structure, and patience as she builds confidence and learns how to simply be a dog again. She will benefit from continued leash training and positive reinforcement to help her thrive. Odessa has been treated for dermatitis, and while her skin and coat are healing well, her adopters should be prepared for ongoing care. Due to her sensitive skin, she may need to remain on veterinarian-prescribed flea prevention commonly used to help manage dermatitis long-term. At this time, Odessa has not been tested with other dogs. If you have another dog in the home, a meet and greet will be required prior to adoption to ensure a good fit. Her adoption fee is $125. Odessa is spayed, microchipped, current on her rabies vaccination, DAPPV, Bordetella, and heartworm negative. If you are ready to give Odessa the time, patience, and care she deserves, please apply online: rockwalladoptions/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
