Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Pembroke, MA Frodo “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” Frodo is ready to be swept off on new adventures! She and her littermates have been your typical mouthy and active pups, and won't be content with the quiet life of a hobbit: they are seeking homes that will help them lead adventurous and fulfilled lives. Frodo has been a curious and confident puppy: one of the first to explore a new environment, check out a new object, or greet a new person. With good handler focus and toy/food drive, she will make a great active companion for someone interested in doing All The Things and perhaps dabbling in dog sports! The Fellowship were born on 2/9/26 and have been raised in foster with their momma Shire, a 40lb ACD. She has been a friendly girl and has done a great job caring for her little Shirelings! Embark results show Shire is full ACD, and that the sire was a predominantly great pyrenees, husky, and labrador mix. Though those results threw me for a bit of a loop, the pups all have a similar look to one another so I feel it is unlikely there were multiple sires (but that's always a possibility). They have been raised with Puppy Culture to the best of my ability, and I have been establishing foundational skills here including crate exposure and a verbal marker system for training. Of course, as puppies they will need continued training for all the basics. They have all been doing well with exposure to new objects, textures, environments, sounds, people, and dogs. Frodo should be fine with cats after proper integration, and kids 6+ should be fine provided the home is herding dog savvy. The pups of the Fellowship have been vet checked, microchipped, are up to date on deworming, and have age-appropriate vaccinations. They are being adopted out on spay/neuter contracts to allow their puppy bodies and minds more time to develop. Please keep your location in mind when applying: the pups must meet their potential families here in person to help ensure a great match! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
