Description

Dog Breed: Pug (short coat). Meet Winston aka Puppy! He isn't quite sure about his name yet, but does respond well to "puppy" and he is ALL puppy! He is floppy, happy, and goofy. He has loved every toy and chew he has come across. He has quite the leaping ability and many times has come flying into his fosters' laps unexpectedly from somewhere across the room. In true puppy form, he crashes hard and falls asleep wherever he happens to be. He is a HUGE cuddler and LOVES to be held! His fosters have noticed a little bit of separation anxiety and some crate anxiety, especially during the day. He will sleep in his crate at night, but during the day likes to be up and out of it! He was found as a stray and brought to the Fort Wayne animal shelter so his history is unknown. He did demonstrate an ability to read dog body language and avoid bigger dogs or run away if he was irritating a dog friend. He has taken quickly to other dogs and would do well in a home with doggy friends and playmates. He has not been around kids or cats, but his fosters have no reason to believe he wouldn't do well with either. He appears to have some outdoor allergies, so it is important to clean his face folds to avoid a reaction. He is potty trained. It is important to note that he is an escape artist and WILL take off out an open door if given the opportunity! A fence and a close eye on open doors is important!

Overview:

The Pug, a charming and ancient breed, boasts a fascinating history believed to originate in China as early as 206 BC. Known for its distinctive flat, wrinkled face, large, expressive eyes, and tightly curled tail, the Pug's compact, muscular build is instantly recognizable. Despite their somewhat serious expression, Pugs are famously friendly, playful, and affectionate companions, often described as "clowns" due to their comedic antics. Their relatively low exercise requirements and adaptability make them excellent pets for apartment dwellers and devoted family members, thriving on human companionship. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, primarily their susceptibility to respiratory issues due to their brachycephalic (short-nosed) structure, as well as potential eye problems and joint conditions. With proper care and attention, the Pug offers years of unwavering loyalty and delightful companionship.
