Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Keith, an adorable 4 month old Shepherd mix who currently weighs about 15 pounds. This gentle, playful pup has an independent spirit and loves spending time outdoors. Whether he is exploring the yard, playing with his toys, or hanging out with his people, Keith always finds a way to make every day fun. Keith accompanies his foster mom to doggy daycare each day, where he has become very well socialized and enjoys the company of other dogs. He rides wonderfully in the car, is doing great with potty training, and continues to make progress with his leash skills. One of his funniest quirks is that when he is picked up, he goes completely limp like a noodle and seems to think it is the best thing ever. While Keith enjoys affection, he is not overly clingy and prefers to seek out attention on his own terms. His sweet nature, playful personality, and independent streak make him the perfect combination of adventure buddy and loyal companion. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
