Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Buddy, a resilient 1-year-old Shepherd/Pit mix weighing approximately 60 lbs who is ready for a second chance after not being reclaimed. He was originally found, injured, on 04/10/26 off Dower Rd in Rockwall County with no collar or microchip. After Xray's and full physical evaluation by our vet, Buddy was diagnosed with significant nerve damage to his front right leg that had already caused a great deal of muscle loss. Unfortunately, the condition was not treatable, and his leg was amputated on 04/15/26. Despite everything he has been through, Buddy continues to show strength and a will to move forward as he begins his recovery. Buddy is neutered, microchipped, and current on his rabies vaccination, DAPPV, and Bordetella. He is heartworm positive, but thanks to Rockwall PAWS, his treatment is sponsored. Because he is currently healing from surgery, he will need a patient and committed home that can allow him time to recover and adjust. Adopters will go home with any medications he is currently taking at the time of adoption to continue his care. Dogs typically recover quickly from leg amputations and are often ready to resume normal activity within 2 weeks. Due to his recent surgery and recovery, Buddy has not been tested with other dogs at this time. If you already have dogs in the home, a meet and greet is recommended prior to adoption to ensure a good fit. Buddy's adoption fee is $125, and an approved online application is required prior to meet and greets as well as adoption. If you're ready to give this incredibly deserving boy the loving home he's been waiting for, please apply at: rockwalladoptions/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
