Dog Breed: Beagle. Currently located at our Evansville IN location Foster Needed: Meet Turner! Turner is a young Beagle with a nose for adventure and a heart full of love! This sweet boy is everything you’d expect from the breed — curious, playful, and always ready to follow a scent (or you!) wherever you go. Turner is still young, so he has that fun puppy-like energy and would thrive in a foster home that can help him continue learning good manners and routines. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, going for walks, and soaking up attention from his people. After he’s had time to burn off some energy, he’s more than happy to settle in for cuddles. Like most Beagles, Turner is smart and food-motivated, which makes training both fun and rewarding. He would benefit from a home that understands the breed’s love of sniffing and staying busy. Turner is ready to leave shelter life behind and relax in a loving foster home while he waits for his forever family. All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and treated, if necessary.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
