Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Meet Tofu! York, SC Tofu is an adorable 6-month-old puppy weighing about 7 pounds, and she’s expected to stay small. We believe she’s a Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) with possibly a touch of Miniature Pinscher—she’s got a cute, leggy build, a slightly longer body, and the most irresistible big ears! Tofu is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She loves people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She would also do well in a home with respectful, considerate children. Her one challenge is that she really doesn’t enjoy being confined—crates and baby gates are not her favorite (and she’s clever enough to climb over them!). Tofu thrives when she can be close to her people and would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. She’s a true companion pup who just wants to be by your side. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
