Description
Dog Breed: Dalmatian. Meet Camo and Checkers! This adorable Dalmatian duo is a package deal full of personality and just the right mix of chill and playful energy. Checkers (8–9 years, ~55 lbs) is the distinguished gentleman of the pair. He’s happiest curled up under a blanket or in a cozy sweater, thriving on belly rubs. Checkers does need a bit of patience as he continues working on house-training habits and managing some age-related spinal weakness—but he’s come a long way and will reward you with unwavering loyalty and love. Camo (2–3 years, ~33 lbs) is the spunky little shadow you didn’t know you needed. He’s equal parts zoomies and naps, with a hilarious personality that shines through his playful yips and signature “crawl” trick. He loves being near his people (preferably the center of attention!) and will happily burrow into your lap or a blanket when it’s time to wind down. These boys were rescued from a difficult hoarding situation and have worked incredibly hard to rebuild their strength and trust in people. In their new foster home, they love their routines, and will definitely remind you when it’s mealtime. Checkers is crate-trained too but Camo is afraid unless he goes in Checkers' XL kennel alongside him. Checkers and Camo are indifferent to cats, and their foster family has no concerns about living with other dogs or with children. They tend to bark at other dogs outside so they may need help with introductions. Daily walks will help them relax, but they won't need excessive exercise or a fenced yard. Just a family who's committed to getting their wiggles out (10 minute walk) every day or they may be more mischievous. If you’re looking for a heart-melting senior sweetheart and a goofy, lovable sidekick, Checkers and Camo are ready to bring laughter and lots of snuggles into your life! If you are interested in Camo and Checkers, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $450. Overview:
The Dalmatian is an iconic medium-sized breed, instantly recognizable by its striking white coat adorned with distinctive black or liver spots. Originating in the historical region of Dalmatia (modern-day Croatia), these dogs were initially bred as coaching dogs, running alongside carriages to protect passengers and deter road agents. Physically, they are well-muscled and athletic, with a graceful, symmetrical build and an alert expression. Temperamentally, Dalmatians are known for being outgoing, intelligent, and highly energetic, requiring significant daily exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom. While generally good with children and suitable for active families, their playful exuberance might be overwhelming for very young kids, and their exercise needs make them less ideal for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Health-wise, the breed is notably predisposed to deafness (affecting a significant percentage) and urinary stone formation, necessitating careful breeding and veterinary monitoring. Early socialization and consistent training are crucial for developing a well-adjusted and beloved family member.
