Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Terrier. Meet Flounder, a 9-week-old German Shepherd mix with a gentle heart! At 14 lbs, she's a little shy at first and often the pup patiently waiting her turn for cuddles and attention. Once she gets it, she soaks up every bit of love. Flounder has a calm, easygoing personality and would make an excellent nap buddy after a fun day of puppy adventures. She’s curious about the world and continuing to gain confidence each day. Flounder is still learning the basics of potty training and currently uses puppy pads while practicing going outside. She has done wonderfully in gated puppy spaces. She would benefit from having people at home to tend to her puppy needs. Due to her noise level, she will require a home without shared walls (no apartments/townhomes). She currently lives with cats in her foster home and is mostly uninterested in them. Her foster family recommends slow introductions to other dogs, but after that, she will thrive. Flounder does well with children as well. Flounder enjoys all kinds of toys, including ropes, stuffies, and puppy chews. As a German Shepherd mix, Flounder will grow into an intelligent and active dog who will benefit from regular exercise, training, and mental enrichment as she matures. She will require a fenced yard in her future home to meet her energy needs. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal puppy with a calm spirit and lots of love to share, Flounder is ready to swim right into your heart! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
