Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Fletch! He is an easy going, gentle, 2yr old, male Great Pyrenees. He is currently 90lbs but would be a healthy weight at 100+. He is friendly with dogs and cats. He plays well with dogs and he is great with puppies, he is a gentle and patient teacher. He does great at the dog park and would love a playful large dog in his home. He does well with the 3 cats in his foster home, ignoring them other than the occasional sniff. Fletch is super sweet and loves pets. He has good manners and does not jump up on the couch or bed. We believe he do well with small children and seniors in the home. He is house trained. He prefers to sleep outside at night which he has the option to do at his foster home with a doggie door. He likes to take naps against the front door, so he knows if anyone comes in. He does well in the car and on a leash. Fletch is a big, goofy, playful, fluffy love. He will be a wonderful addition to any home! He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He is currently in a foster home in DFW area, TX. Out of area adopters are responsible for arranging their own transportation. His adoption fee is $250. Apply to meet and adopt Fletch at .spinrescue

Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
