Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Terrier. Bolt is a 9-week-old German Shepherd mix with some electric energy! Named after the Disney movie, Bolt bounces back and forth between very laid-back and feisty playtime with his siblings. At 14 lbs, this handsome little guy is already showing off how much he can learn. He’s currently learning puppy basics like potty training and uses puppy pads while practicing going outside. He has not been in a kennel yet but has done well with his siblings inside a puppy pen. Bolt currently lives with cats but is so far uninterested in them, proving to be a pretty easygoing roommate. He also does well with kids and with other dogs, but his foster family recommends slow introductions with dogs while he's still small. Bolt enjoys all kinds of toys, including ropes, stuffies, and puppy chews. He won't need a fenced yard as long as his future family is committed to regular walks, exercise, and outdoor time. As a German Shepherd mix, Bolt will grow into an intelligent and active dog who will benefit from training, exercise, and mental stimulation as he matures. If you’re looking for a sweet and playful bolt of energy to grow with your family, Bolt may be the perfect fit! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
