Name: Puff Best Guess for Breed: Poodle Mix Best Guess for Age: 10 months as of April 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 10.3 lbs as of April 2026 Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Shelter. Needs a forever home! Puff is Looking For: A family to call his own. This handsome young boy landed in the shelter through no fault of his own and is looking to start a new life in the DMV. He is at that perfect young age where he is still very trainable but should get a handle on the basics pretty quickly. What do you think, can you give Puff a loving home? Due to his coat texture, Puff will need near daily brushing at home as well as regular professional grooming appointments to keep his coat looking and feeling great! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
