Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Salem is a 3-year-old, 38-pound mixed-breed pup with a gentle, people-focused personality. He gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having canine companions. Salem is excellent in his crate and is housebroken for the most part, though he may occasionally try to mark—something he’s continuing to improve with consistency and routine. He walks great on a leash and is also a fantastic car companion, making him an easy addition to day-to-day life. He’s more interested in spending time with his people than chasing toys or treats, and he truly shines when he’s getting attention and affection. While he doesn’t know any formal tricks just yet, he makes up for it by being an excellent cuddle buddy. Salem does have some energy and enjoys getting out and about, but he also settles in nicely. Salem has shown a bit too much interest in cats and may try to chase them, so a cat-free home would likely be the best fit for him. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who loves being by your side, Salem could be a perfect match. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and will be available for adoption starting 4/26/26 through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA KL# 16182.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
