Description

Dog Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat). Thank you for stopping by to see me! Please fill out an application to set up a private meeting. Junco is a Cavalier with a soft coat, a tender heart, and a sweet, thoughtful personality. While he can still be shy at times, his joyful side is really starting to shine — when his tail gets wagging, his whole back end wiggles with pure happiness. Each day, he grows a little more confident and comfortable in the world around him. He loves gentle pets under his chin, along his back, and on his belly, though he may still duck away from hands reaching over his head — a small sign of his sensitive nature. With patience and kindness, he continues to learn just how good affection can feel. Junco absolutely adores his cozy comforts. You’ll often find him tucked into a soft dog bed surrounded by his favorite blankets and toys. He has a funny, endearing habit of collecting “soft treasures” like plush toys and socks, gathering them into his own little pile and guarding them from the other dogs with a quiet growl. Recently, he’s even started to play with soft toys, showing off more of his playful side. He enjoys being around other dogs and loves running around in a securely fenced yard, especially when he can explore and follow their lead. A fenced yard is required for Junco, as leash walking is still a work in progress. He has made nice strides — he enjoys riding in a stroller for walks and will happily hop out at “sniff spots” to explore on leash and mark a tree or two. Once it’s time to continue along the street, though, he prefers the comfort of being lifted back into his stroller. Junco is very food motivated and loves treats of all kinds, though he does have a sensitivity to chicken, so a chicken-free diet will be important for him. He’s still working on potty training but is doing really well when kept on a schedule. He can be sensitive to loud noises or overwhelming commotion, so he would do best in a calm, predictable home environment. He’s not quite a full-time cuddler yet, but he enjoys being held and carried and appreciates gentle, consistent affection. Junco is looking for a quiet, patient home where he can continue to blossom at his own pace. If you’re looking for a soft-hearted, sensitive companion who will reward your patience with joyful wiggles, quiet sweetness, and a deep, trusting bond, Junco is ready to find his safe and loving forever home. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiriesunderdogrescuemn> ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Overview:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an enchanting toy breed with a rich history, originating from the spaniels depicted in paintings of the 16th to 18th centuries and popularized by King Charles II. They are characterized by their gentle, affectionate temperament, making them exceptional companions. Physically, Cavaliers are small yet sturdy, typically weighing between 13-18 pounds, with a silky, medium-length coat that comes in various color patterns including Blenheim (chestnut and white), tricolor, black and tan, and ruby. Their signature features include a slightly domed head, large expressive eyes, and long feathered ears. Cavaliers are known for being adaptable and eager to please, thriving in both family environments and apartment living due to their moderate exercise needs and loving nature. They generally get along well with children and other pets, fitting seamlessly into most households. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain breed-specific health concerns, such as heart conditions (mitral valve disease) and syringomyelia, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
