Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Odie! This amazing boy was found as a stray with a severely broken jaw. We rushed him to the ER where he was stabilized and then he was transferred to a specialty clinic to have surgery to repair the damage. Poor Odie lost about 20% of his lower jaw but he has healed beautifully and you would never know! Odie is such a darling boy. He has been good natured throughout his recovery and he is a gentle and sweet boy. He can be a little on the nervous side, clearly he is learning about life and many things are new to him. He is starting to enjoy leash walks and exploring outside. He has not had much opportunity to interact with other dogs due to his recovery, but we think he will do well with another calm dog who can give him time to slowly warm up. We do not know how he is with cats. Older kids (over 10) will be fine for him. Younger kids probably would overwhelm him a little bit. Odie will need a home with a yard and someone who can continue helping him learn. Training and socialization will be important for him. He is so deserving - he has been through so much. Odie is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
