Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. My name is Noodles! My foster mom calls me NuNu! I am a 1 year old German Shepherd mix with long hair and silly ears! My personality matches my name pretty well too! I am 100% a daddy’s boy, but will enjoy a mommy too. I play wonderful with other dogs and walk on the leash well, however, I still need training. I am worrisome of people and will bark, but I just need to build my trust with other people. Provide positive reinforcement with treats and I will quickly get over my worrisome self. I do like to have my privacy when eating, and rest in a crate after eating too. My foster mom doesn’t want me to bloat after a full meal-very rude of her I just want to run and play all the time! My crate is where I stay while you are at work, but once you are back I want to hang out with you and play with my dog siblings! I love my toys and fetching. I know how to sit and wait for my food like a gentleman. I also sit and wait for my “go” word to come out of my crate. My dream is to have a fenced in backyard and a young to middle aged dog sibling to play tug-of-war! My foster brother has taught me how to play and it is my absolute favorite! Finally, I want cool family to continue my training to be a well established gentleman! I am being fostered in the Charlotte, NC area! So reach out so we can do a meet and greet! You must live in NC or VA to adopt! Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
