Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). OREGANO IS SCHEDULED FOR HIS NEUTER ON JUNE 25, 2026 WHEN HE IS 16 WEEKS OLD. HE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OUTSIDE A 30 MINUTE RADIUS OF DES MOINES DUE TO HIS VETTING NEEDS. Oregano is a mixed breed puppy who was born February 27, 2026 after his momma was rescued from a homeless camp in Oklahoma. He is one of a litter of 8. Oregano weighs just under 12 lbs. right now, at 8 weeks old, and is expected to be a medium sized dog when full.grown. His momma, Marty, weighs 35 lbs. but we don't know who Daddy is. Oregano is working on socializing with other dogs and learning the basics of being a house dog. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
