Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). SAGE IS SCHEDULED FOR HER SPAY ON JUNE 24, 2026, WHEN SHE IS 16 WEEKS OLD. SHE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OUTSIDE A 30 MINUTE RADIUS OF DES MOINES DUE TO HER VETTING NEEDS. Sage is a mixed breed puppy who was born February 27, 2026, after her momma was rescued from a homeless camp in Oklahoma. She is one of a litter of 8. Sage weighs about 10 lbs. and is 9 weeks old She is expected to be a medium sized dog when full grown. Her momma, Marty, weighs 35 lbs. but we don't know who Daddy is. Sage is a sweet, adventurous girl that loves exploring her surroundings. She walks well on a leash and does well in a kennel. Sage continues to work on potty training but overall is doing great. She loves to play fetch! Sage is being fostered with other dogs and has been introduced to cats and did very well with the meet and greet. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
