Description
Dog Breed: Collie (medium coat). A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY CONVERSATION ABOUT ADOPTING FROM OUR ORGANIZATION. PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AT .colliesheltierescue AND READ ABOUT THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS (GOOD PHONE INTERVIEW, SECURELY FENCED YARD, FABULOUS REFERENCE FROM YOUR VETERINARIAN AND A HOME VISIT. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT BUT WE SCREEN CAREFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF THE DOGS. THEY DESERVE IT! This small blue merle rough coated Collie has been named Princess Laina. She came to us from a backyard breeder who imported her from Russia. She is shy and gentle but can be coaxed with bits of food, which helps for socialization and training. Before coming to RMCSR, Laina had been a farm dog, so she is learning all the things a good dog should know. She has not had any potty accidents but needs to be taken out frequently until she fully understands "let's go outside and go potty." Even learning that she has a name has been a process. But yesterday she did a play bow and today she ate her breakfast with me in the room. Good stuff! We have caught up with all of Laina's vaccines and her bloodwork is great. She will be spayed and have a dental on 4/23 and could easily have her recovery with the family that will love her forever. It would be very helpful to have a gentle family dog that could show Laina the ropes. She is here with her mate but he dominates her and she needs to become confident and independent on her own. Laina has many nicknames. Sweetheart, Cupcake, Little Princess......just like your favorite child. Another brushout and a quick bath and she will be ready for her surgeries on Friday. And then she could be in your arms and on your lap. Gentle hands and a calm environment will be what Laina needs. Priority will be given to Colorado applicants with another Collie.

Overview:
The Collie, a majestic and intelligent breed, originates from Scotland where they were primarily used for herding sheep. Known for their striking beauty, Collies typically possess a long, flowing double coat that comes in a variety of colors including sable and white, tricolor, and blue merle. They have a graceful, athletic build, with a distinctive long muzzle and expressive eyes. In terms of temperament, Collies are renowned for being incredibly loyal, gentle, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions. Their affectionate nature makes them particularly well-suited for families with children, though their need for moderate exercise means they thrive in homes with yards, rather than cramped apartment living. While generally a healthy breed, potential owners should be aware of a predisposition to certain conditions like Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and drug sensitivities. With proper care and training, a Collie will enrich any household with their devoted companionship and bright personality.
