Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $525 + MN tax. At just 15 pounds and around 3 years old, Chuyita is a tiny dog with a huge personality and endless zest for life. Originally from Mexico, she’s adjusting beautifully to home life and discovering all the fun that comes with being part of a family. Chuyita is energetic, clever, curious, and always ready for her next adventure. She loves exploring the house and yard, figuring out her toys, chasing birds, and showing off her impressive speed and herding skills at the dog park. She would thrive with active adopters who can keep both her mind and body engaged, because this smart girl learns fast — and definitely likes to test boundaries a little, too! Despite her adventurous side, Chuyita is also incredibly affectionate and loyal. She absolutely adores snuggling with both humans and other dogs and happiest when she’s close to her people or curled up with her foster brothers. She’s currently fostered with larger dogs and has done wonderfully with them, using her sweet, submissive charm to become part of the pack. She truly seems to enjoy having canine companions around, so a home with another friendly dog would be ideal, though we would still consider applications for homes without one. Like many dogs settling into a brand new environment, Chuyita is still working on a few basics. She’s making progress with potty training and currently has about one accident per day while learning a consistent outdoor schedule. She’s also learning kennel routines — she settles well once inside and does best kenneled whenever left home alone, since her curiosity and love of exploring can sometimes get her into mischief if unsupervised. Chuyita is also improving her manners at mealtime after initially deciding everyone’s dinner should belong to her, too. Thankfully, her foster dog siblings have been excellent role models! This little girl has so much love, personality, intelligence, and joy packed into her tiny frame. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing, keep you active, and snuggle up close at the end of the day, Chuyita may just be your perfect match. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
