Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $550 + MN tax. Meet Chuyita! At just 15 pounds and around 3 years old, Chuyita is a tiny bundle of energy with a big personality. Originally from Mexico, she’s been adjusting impressively well to her new surroundings and is quickly discovering all the joys of home life. Chuyita is curious, clever, and always ready to explore—whether that’s investigating a new corner of the house or figuring out how her toys work. She has a playful spirit but balances it beautifully with her love of snuggles. She’s happiest when she’s close to her people and enjoys keeping her foster family company throughout the day. She’s also been living with larger dogs and is eager to win them over with her extra cuddly and submissive approach. While she means well, she’s still learning how to read and respect their boundaries. With continued guidance and patient introductions, she’s making steady progress. Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, Chuyita is still working on a few basics. She’s learning to stick to a consistent potty schedule outdoors and is getting more comfortable with her kennel—she settles fine once inside but may need a little encouragement to go in on her own during free-roam time. Chuyita would thrive in a home that can continue her training, offer her plenty of affection, and give her opportunities to explore safely. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
