Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Hello! My name is Koda and I am a 10 year old gentleman. Don’t let my age fool you , I love to chase a ball and go for walks with my human even if I don’t go for a long time. I am super smart and know all of my basic commands. I love to chill and watch tv with my human and foster siblings (which include two dogs and a cat) , and I’m a super low maintenance undemanding guy! If you are looking for a companion that is sophisticated, relaxed and superbly sweet then I am your guy! No puppy shenanigans for me……. I don’t tear up the house, I am housebroken, and I even get along with cats and other dogs. As a bonus, I have a deep, intimidating bark to alert you as I guard your house. No security system needed. So if you think I may be the right dog for you, contact your adoption coordinator or visit .southeastgermanshepherd to apply to adopt! Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrtreasurergmail .

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
