Rookie is an 8-month-old Flat-Coated Retriever/Lab mix weighing about 42 pounds, and he’s the total package of brains and charm. This handsome boy is incredibly friendly, social, and always ready to make a new friend—whether it’s a person or another pup. Rookie is very smart and eager to learn, making him a great candidate for training and continued growth in a loving home. He’s the kind of dog who truly wants to please and will thrive with guidance, playtime, and positive reinforcement. While we believe Rookie may already be potty and kennel trained, we can’t guarantee it since he’s currently in a shelter environment. That said, his quick learning ability and adaptable nature will make any transition smoother. With his sweet personality and enthusiastic spirit, Rookie would make a wonderful addition to just about any family looking for a loyal and fun companion. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
