Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Meet our darling Polly! This 10 lb Shih Tzu is about 2 yrs old and as sweet as they come. Polly joined us as part of a breeder release when help was needed, and she’s been discovering what it means to feel safe, loved, and brave ever since. Polly absolutely adores her foster mama… she’s a little shadow who follows her everywhere. She’s the definition of a lap dog and loves nothing more than snuggling up close. She sleeps in foster mom’s bed, enjoys car rides, and is starting to show her playful side with other dogs and toys. She gets along wonderfully with the other pups in her foster home, but kids can still be a little scary for her. Polly would never hurt a fly. When she’s unsure, she just freezes or hides. She has come a long way and is learning all the good dog things. She can do stairs now, walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained, and is partially housebroken. She’s been wearing a diaper at night just in case, but she wakes up dry and has also uses potty pads. With a little consistency, she’ll have it down perfectly. A fenced in yard is preferred for Polly, as she does best going potty off-leash. If you’re looking for the sweetest, most devoted little companion, Polly just might be your girl. She is spayed, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her happy ever after. She will need regular grooming appts. Her adoption donation is $500. Please apply directly on our website at: havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
