Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Lina is a 7-year-old, 12-pound terrier mix with a big personality packed into a tiny body. Originally a semi-feral pup from Cherokee, NC, Lina has come a long way and is discovering just how cozy and fun life inside a home can be. These days, Lina’s favorite place is right in bed with her people and her foster dog sibling, soaking up all the comfort she missed out on before. On leash, Lina is a great walking companion, though she prefers a little personal space and may let out a growl if unfamiliar dogs get too close. She’s currently living with a small dog and does well overall, but she’d likely thrive in a home that understands her need for boundaries. Cats, in her opinion, are not friends. Lina is looking for a patient, understanding home that will continue to help her feel safe & loved. She is up to date on her vaccines, spayed, is on monthly flea and heartworm prevention and her adoption fee is $250. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
