Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Chocolate Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet Butters, a 2 yr old Chocolate Lab with a heart as big as his 104 pound frame. This gentle giant is the definition of sweet, a total love bug who just wants to be near his people and soak up all the affection he can get. Butters is kennel trained both day and night and is mostly potty trained once he feels comfortable in his environment. Now that he’s freshly neutered, he’s well on his way to being fully house ready. Butters has a playful side and loves all kinds of toys, especially a good game of fetch. He does wonderfully with other dogs, is good with cats, and is gentle with kids. He enjoys walks and does well on a leash, though he could use a little more practice to polish his skills. He’ll let you know if someone unfamiliar is around but remains friendly and non-aggressive. He also loves truck rides and going on hikes, happily joining you on any adventure. This big, lovable boy came from a heartbreaking situation of neglect and hoarding, and our team even went to court to testify on his behalf. Thanks to that, Butters got the second chance he so deeply deserves. He has a face full of scars and was treated for some abscesses. He has come incredibly far and is truly a special dog, so we will be very selective in finding him the perfect forever home. He is pretty amazing. Butters is neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and ready to start his next chapter. His adoption donation fee is $425. Please apply directly on our website using the drop-down menu at havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
