Name: Freya Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of April 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 64 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! She is currently living with kids and doing. well. We haven't seen them with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Freya is Looking For: She's a young girl looking forward to sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed would be great too, but you know what she wants most of all? To be safe and loved, to know where she belongs. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Can you see her by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Freya is doing great! She is a very calm girl and low maintenance. Definitely enjoys the simple things in life. She is a huuuuge cuddler and loves sun bathing. She is happy to go on a walk or car ride, but also happy to nap her in bed. She is a very self assured girl and has confident presence, constantly wagging her tail. She has been calm around children and dogs! Also, she is SO GENTLE on the leash. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
