MACEY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Macey Best Guess for Breed: Wire haired terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 12.5 years as of April 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 16.5 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Macey is Looking For: Her forever home! Macey has been very, very well loved. Through no fault of anyone at all, she now needs a new home. Shelter staff say she is very sweet and does not act like a senior dog! She has one eye too but that doesn't make a whit of difference to her. She's an all around great pup who has so much pep still in her step - she wants those walks and adventures! - and so love and loyalty to give. What do you say? Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
