Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. LUNA is a 2 year old German Shepherd (DOB 3/17/24) who came to us when her family had to give her up due to landlord issues. She appears to have been well loved and is taking all of the life changes in stride. Luna is very people friendly and doesn't seem to be fazed by the noise and activity level of a household with kids. She hopped right into the car to head to her foster home and has been settling in nicely. She is very food motivated, knows sit and crates quietly overnight. On leash, she is strong and will pull like an ox, so she’ll benefit from some continued training and guidance. She is reactive towards other dogs on walks but briefly met a neighbor's dog with no issue and had a few face-to-face interactions through a fence, so she might be okay with a dog who is not bothered by her exuberance. She is a bit too overstimulated by the cat and guinea pigs. Zero aggression but she will definitely chase, so a home without small animals would be best unless you have a very understanding, laid back cat. Video: .facebook/share/v/1bCNbEo2Bm/

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
