Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (medium coat). Ryder is a 2-year-old Doberman Pinscher with a high energy level and a true love for the outdoors. She thrives on exercise and would be the perfect companion for an active family that can keep up with her enthusiasm for running and playtime. Due to her energy and activity needs, Ryder is best suited for a home with a securely fenced backyard. No apartments or condos, please. Itâs important to note that she is capable of jumping fences, so extra care should be taken to ensure her space is safe and secure. Ryder is a friendly and social dog who gets along well with both people and other dogs. That said, slow and proper introductions to new dogs are always recommended to help set her up for success. Medically, Ryder arrived with a laceration on her right hind toe. She has been started on antibiotics and examined by our veterinarian. The wound is healing well, but her new owner will need to continue follow-up care with their own vet to ensure a full recovery. If youâre looking for an energetic, affectionate companion to join your active lifestyle, Ryder could be the perfect match. Please call the North Shelter at 416-338-8723 to book a meet and greet session with her. We are open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
