Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Dan (A568624) Dan is my favorite dog at the shelter right now. Heâs small, unassuming and holds his left paw up frequently. Iâve been told that the shelter vet examined his left leg and found that no surgical intervention is necessary.He is not going to be anyoneâs long walk buddy but he will happily be a loving lap dog and is actually lap-sized! Dan gives wonderful kisses if you get down on his level. He rolls on to his back to relax and provide maximum surface to receive pets. He is comfortable around all people that Iâve seen him meet. Dan has a sign on his kennel that says âbecause of my medical condition playgroup is not a good fit for meâ. I can see that being the case, as Danâs body language when he saw another dog was not relaxed or playful but tight and fearful (still and unbarking). He might prefer to be an only dog or more information might need to be gathered on his preferences once his medical challenge on his left leg is isolated and heâs on a pain management plan. Thanks to the wonderful pics that happy paws photography captured, Dan might actually get a second chance at life. Itâs a tougher journey for a dog who has a medical challenge and an even more challenging one for dogs who might not immediately be comfortable with other dogs. With this picture hopefully someone will give him a chance to be that kissing, snuggling lap dog that he so desperately wants to be. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
