Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Beagle / Mixed. Meet Wednesday (aka "Winnie")! Looking for a loyal sidekick who will literally always have your back? Meet Wednesday (who has been nicknamed Winnie and is responding very well to that name), an 11-month-old, 21-lb bundle of love who is ready to find her forever team. Our best guess is she is a beagle/dachshund mix, but variety is the spice of life! She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Wednesday is the definition of a "velcro dog." If you’re looking for a companion to binge-watch shows with or someone to keep your feet warm, she’s your girl. She’s at her happiest when she’s right by your side! The Details: Age: 11 Months Weight: 21 lbs (The perfect petite-medium size!) House Manners: Fully potty trained. She may have a few accidents while she adjusts to her new environment, but she has proven to pass the potty test with flying colors. She is also crate trained and has kept a clean crate. Dog Friendly: She’s a social butterfly with other pups and has lived with them (small and large breeds) her whole life thus far. She’d love a canine sibling, but would also be perfectly happy being your "one and only." Cat Friendly: While it's unknown if she's met a cat yet, her foster family suspects she’d do just fine with a proper introduction. A Note on Her Heart: Wednesday is fiercely loyal and protective of her people. Because she loves her humans so much, she can be a bit vocal when meeting new faces. "New" can even mean her family, if you leave the room and come back, she greets you as a new person until she accepts you into her heart. The "Winnie Secret": She is a "slow-burn" friend. If you give her a moment to approach you (treats are helpful) and sniff on her own terms, she melts into a total sweetheart who loves pets and attention. What She’s Looking For: A Patient Leader: Wednesday is currently working on her confidence with positive reinforcement and lots of treats. She’s making good progress! She's proven to be all bark and no bite, but one thing for certain is that she is giving "small dog energy". She needs a family dedicated to continuing this training to help her realize the world isn't so scary. Respectful Kids: Wednesday is looking for an adult-only home or one with older children. While she’s a sweetheart, the high energy, running, and unpredictable movements of young children can be very scary for her. When she feels intimidated, she uses her voice to ask for space. Because kids deserve to play freely and Wednesday deserves to feel safe, a mature environment would be a "win-win" for her. Wednesday has so much love to give—she just needs someone to give her the time to show it. Once you’re in her circle, you have a best friend for life. Wednesday is available for adoption starting 4/26/26 through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA KL# 16182 PawsAcrossPittsburgh/Adopt

Breed overview
Overview:
The Doxle, an endearing hybrid of the Beagle and Dachshund, is a relatively new designer breed that emerged from the desire to combine the best traits of its parentage. Typically a small to medium-sized dog, Doxles often inherit the long, low body of the Dachshund with the floppy ears and distinctive coloring of the Beagle, though their appearance can vary. Their temperament is generally a delightful mix: the Beagle's friendly and curious nature blends with the Dachshund's loyalty and playful spirit, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being affectionate and intelligent, though they can possess a stubborn streak and the Beagle's propensity for scent-following. Doxles adapt well to various living situations, including apartment living, provided they receive adequate daily exercise to manage their energy levels and prevent boredom. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of health concerns prevalent in their parent breeds, such as back issues (intervertebral disc disease) from the Dachshund side and epilepsy or ear infections from the Beagle.
