Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). One look into Ben’s eyes and you know he’s a wise old soul. Ben’s not the puppy who’s going to hop in your lap once you sit down with sloppy kisses; at least not yet. He is the pup who will follow you wherever you go, reach up for some love, and then faithfully sit at your feet. Part of the Walmart litter, Ben’s a bit more mellow and subdued than his siblings. He’s the Buddha of the Walmart litter – even keeled, smart, and forgiving. That’s not to say he doesn’t love to play nor is he a pushover by any means; his response to overly pushy, rude puppy behavior is a soft warning bay, a quick correction, and his hind end. He has no time for the nonsense. We have no idea what Ben has been through in his short life, but he has grown and flourished with each passing day. He’s going to be someone’s incredibly loyal and devoted dog when he matures.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
