Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 450.00. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston. Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system. To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters. Our adoption fee varies by dog. A FTA contract is required. This boy was found and published on Facebook. YRH shared that post in hopes owner would reclaim. Soon afterward, finder gave the dog away. Days later, the dog showed up at Montgomery County Animal Shelter surrendered as a 'sick' dog. We pulled him on a 'medical release' After the stray hold was up, we became the legal owners of this precious boy. The woman who surrendered him said he had 'bloody poop'. No evidence of this was seen in our care and custody. (We speculate he had a load of hookworms, resulting in blood in the stool) He was emaciated and needed to put on about a pound or 2. He was treated for hookworms and a subsequent fecal was normal. He is still a tiny boy. Fragile. He will NOT go to a home with children/grandchildren under the age of 5. This boy had a badly needed dental when he was neutered, and due to chronic neglect, lost 13 teeth. He has made a full recovery. He walks well on a leash and sleeps well through the night.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
