Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Adoption Fee: 425.00. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Carol Aulick (DK) Meet Gray — a loyal, driven Malinois ready for his forever home! Gray is a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois with a big heart and an even bigger desire to connect with his people. Like many dogs of his breed, he’s smart, intense, and full of energy—but his story is really about growth, second chances, and finally being understood. Today, Gray is: Engaged and eager to learn Affectionate and people-oriented Learning proper play and impulse control Thriving with structure and purpose He has obedience training and is crate trained. He rides well in the car and loves to work for food, toys or praise! Gray's backstory: For a long time, Gray struggled. Without the right outlets, his natural drive showed up in challenging ways—tugging on toys without letting go, getting overwhelmed during play, and turning leash time into a battle. He spent quite a while in boarding, where staff saw his sweetness but also recognized that he’d need more than the average home could provide. And that’s where things started to change. Now working with a professional trainer, Gray is showing everyone who he truly is. With structure, clear communication, and the right kind of engagement, he’s learning how to channel his “Malinois-ness” into something positive and rewarding. He’s discovered how to play appropriately, how to listen, and how to let go—literally and figuratively. More importantly, Gray wants to do well. He loves people, thrives on praise, and genuinely tries to get it right. When given guidance, he responds beautifully. The chaos that once defined him is being replaced with clarity, confidence, and joy. Gray is a good dog who simply needed the right direction, and now that he has it, he’s proving just how much potential he has. With continued guidance and a committed home that understands working breeds, Gray is going to make an incredible companion. He will do anything for the ones he loves. His forever family won’t just be giving Gray a home—they’ll be giving him the life he’s been waiting for. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
