Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Dot is an 11-week-old German Shepherd mix with a curious, thoughtful personality. Weighing in at about 15 pounds now, she loves to romp and wrestle like any puppy, has an independent streak, and loves exploring the yard before trotting back in for cuddles. Sometimes, she's so inquisitive that she stays out by herself for a minute or two before wanting to come in. Dot is affectionate, people-friendly, and very handleable, making her a great fit for training. She’s making solid progress with house training using frequent outdoor trips and puppy pads, and she’s currently working on pen training. She also already knows to "sit" for treats! Though somewhat cautious at first, Dot does well with other dogs and currently lives with a cat with no problems. She has not met any children while in her foster home. Like most puppies her age, she has bursts of high energy followed by sudden naps, and she can get a little yappy during intense play sessions. Her foster family loves her bold little spirit, she’s brave enough to test boundaries with the resident big dog, then sweet enough to curl up next to him minutes later. If you’re looking for a playful, smart, and slightly independent puppy who will grow into a loyal companion, Dot might be your perfect match! If you are interested in Dot, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
