Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Olive! This lovely girl is new to the shelter after coming in as a stray, but sheâs already winning hearts left and right! Olive is super people-friendly and greets everyone with the sweetest little wigglesâitâs impossible not to smile when you meet her. Sheâs been doing nicely on walks, too, taking in the world around her while staying close to her person. And when it comes to affection? Olive is all in. She loves being near you, soaking up pets, and sharing her gentle, loving energy. If youâre looking for a friendly, affectionate companion with great manners and a wiggly hello, Olive might just be your perfect match! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog's better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
