Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Maple - a dainty Austalian Shepherd mix who wants nothing more than to be loved. Weighing in at 25 lbs, this sweet two year old girl is friendly, gentle, but a little nervous due to the upheaval of landing in a shelter, and then being fostered. She is looking for her furever home where she can feel safe and secure. But once she picks a person, Maple is a stage six clinger. Thats right. Stage six. Doing dishes? She's laying in the middle of the kitchen. Working from home? She's there under the desk. Cooking dinner? Maple is a certified quality control checker...or at least thats what she thinks. Highly food motivated, Maple catches on quick to house rules, is crate trained, knows her name, commands, and even a trick or two. She loves chews and treat toys. She is wicked fast, due to the probable herding/working dog breeds in her, and would probably love some agility training. She is also a jumper, having cleared a baby gate inside with ease. Because of this, a yard with a fence would be best for her. However, due to her clinger nature, she does struggle with seperation anxiety and has accidents in the house when stressed. She will need a patient family to show her everything will be okay and to continue house training. Maple is a follower, not a herder, but does exhibit some "quirks" from the herding/working breeds - like pawing and can sometimes get mouthy when playing. Her future owners will want to educate themselves on these behaviors and continue the positive reinforecement training that she’s begun at her foster’s. Maple loves people. (Even kids!) Likes dogs. Does not care about cats. She would be a fanastic "only child" dog, soaking up the attention just for herself, but would also do well with a patient and calm dog sister or brother.
