Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Abandoned by neighbors, Casey is VERY sweet. He gets along with other dogs but HATES cats (don't know why). Was told he was about 10 years old, but not sure. He likes to roam the neighborhood but always comes home(?). He is SUCH a good dog but has not had it easy, going without food (at times) & has NEVER been to a Veterinarian.(He had already been neutered when he was originally adopted.) I TRULY LOVE this SWEET, SWEET boy but already have 4 dogs of my own. Casey needs a GOOD HOME to live out the remainder of his life. He is not trash to be thrown out on a whim. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! **** Breed: Golden Lab/Retriever **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2197344&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
